Engineer considers this story nonsense and rates it a 2. I am sure this is because any knowledgeble engineer realizes that car batteries are 12 V (at least for the last 45 years) and that the effects ascribed to a rheostat hooked up to a 12 V battery are not realistic. They seem to be much more like what 50-60 hz, ~120 V AC would cause coming out of a powerstat. But the alumnus of your average fraternity house has a very low (p>0.001) probability of being an engineer. Now a marine engineer will tell you that now-a-days it is possible to transvert alternating current out of a DC source and then transform the voltage upward. So NAH! so much for feasibility.
What we have here is a classic sadistic fraternity initiation scene "transformed" into a sorority intiation. Based on what I have heard, sororities do not engage in the brutality that fraternities are renowned for. But as undergraduates we brothers eternally fantasized that they did. Mike could have easily been an ___ house brother. And of course, these girls go far beyond what even the kappa sig's would do.
In any case I think that this is an exceptionally well written sorority fantasy. It ranks well up there with the scene in "Animal House" where Bluto, atop a tall ladder, peers into the sorority house. The use of the paddle readily identifies the writer as an American since the rest of the world uses canes. He must be a fraternal brother since he realizes the significance of the writing on the paddles.
Unfortunately, mike did not major in biology since his descriptions of the biological effects of electricy are unrealistic. Hey but only an engineer without a sense of humor would excessively pick on details.
